Paralegal - Workers' Compensation

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client, a distinguished Michigan-based law firm specializing in various legal areas, seeks a proficient Workers' Compensation Paralegal to join their esteemed team in their Lansing office. As a key member of the Firm, you will provide invaluable support to their attorneys by executing essential paralegal duties specific to workers' compensation cases. The Firm is searching for an organized and detail-oriented individual with a solid grasp of litigation principles and the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Calendar/Document Management:
    • Maintain a meticulous docket of critical dates and deadlines to ensure attorneys are well-prepared in advance.
    • Efficiently manage information requests, ensuring timely receipt of necessary documents.
    • Review and summarize case files, medical records, and pertinent documents as required.
  • Trial Preparation and Proceedings:
    • Prepare exhibits for depositions and trial proceedings.
    • Assist in drafting basic discovery motions as requested.
    • Conduct thorough pre-trial investigations and initial case assessments.
    • Coordinate and schedule independent Medical Examinations across various medical specialties.
    • Organize trial exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
    • Serve as a liaison between trial teams, internal/external parties, attorneys, and expert witnesses.
    • Provide comprehensive assistance to attorney(s) throughout all stages of litigation.
  • Meet or Exceed Billable Hours Requirement:
    • Ensure billable hours meet or surpass established targets.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Perform any other assigned job duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certification from an ABA approved program preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal in workers' compensation.
  • Strong familiarity with litigation principles and Michigan Court Rules.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 programs.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and adaptability.
  • Proactive and responsive to the needs of the practice group.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
